Frequently Asked Questions – Youth

 

1. What is Ryde Free RT?

Ryde Free RT is a program that will provide fare-free public transit for youth in TK-12th grades within the entire SacRT network. You will be able to ride on any SacRT buses, light rail, and SmaRT Ride mictrotransit service.

 

2. Do I qualify for a free pass?

If you live or go to school within the SacRT service area, you qualify. If you are currently homeless or in the foster care system, you qualify no matter where you are living or where you go to school.

 

3. When will I start getting free rides?

Free rides start on October 1, 2019 and end on September 30, 2020.

 

4. How do I get the pass?

There are 3 ways to get the pass:

  • Your school will put a sticker on your student ID or, if you are in TK-6th grade, your school will give you a special bus pass with a sticker already on it.
  • You can go to any Sacramento Public Library, present your school ID, and receive your sticker. To find your local library, visit saclibrary.org.
  • You can go to a SacRT Customer Service Center (1225 R Street).

 

5. When and where can I use the pass?

You can ride SacRT any time of the day, any day of the week, and all year.

 

6. What do I do when I board a bus or light rail?

When you board a SacRT bus or lightrail or the SmaRT Ride microtransit service, you will show you student ID or special pass to the driver.

 

7. What do I do if I lose or damage my student ID?

You should go to the place where you first got your sticker.

 

8. Do my parents have to give me permission to get the pass?

We would like your parents to know about this program, and some school districts will be sending information home.

 

9. How do I get more information?

3. Can parents get a free pass also?

 Unfortunately, SacRT cannot provide free passes to parents.
